It can be a difficult thing to get through having a cold. When you have a cold, you are usually feel like you are walking around in a cloud. Because of this feeling, people often neglect to take care of themselves when they are sick. This is not the best thing that you can do for yourself. You need to take care of a cold to help to get rid of it faster. There are a few basic things that you need to do to take care of yourself when you are sick to make sure you are back on your feet as soon as possible.
Eat 3 balanced meals through out the day. When you have a cold, the last thing that you probably want to do is to eat. This is not healthy for you. Your body needs to be fueled so that it can fight you being sick. Make sure that your meals are full of vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates to give your body a fighting chance. Between meals, you can sip on broth to keep your energy up to fight your cold.
Drink a lot of water and other liquids. It is very easy to get dehydrated when you are sick. To stay hydrated stay away from caffeinated beverages. The best liquids to drink when you are sick are water, orange juice, and decaf herbal teas. Continually sip on some form of liquid when you have a cold to help you to get better faster.
Sleep for 8 to 10 hours a day. Your body needs rest to help it to repair itself from being sick. The average adult needs 6 hours of sleep a day when healthy. Most adults do not even get this amount. To give your body time to take care of you when you have a cold, you need to make sure that you get at least 8 hours of sleep a day. You may need more depending on how run down you feel.
Listen to your body when you are sick. If your body is telling you that you are over doing it and need to sit down, then do so. Your body will give you hints to make the right choices to take care of it when you are sick. All you have to do is to listen to it.
