英语中时间的表达方法主要有直接法和借用介词法等。
(1)直接法。
上午八点eight AM (a.m.)〔ei em〕
下午九点nine PM (p.m.)〔pi:em〕
六点六分six six
六点三十二six thirty two
八点正eight o??clock
(2)借用介词法。
八点四十五a quarter to nine
七点零五分five past seven
七点五十四six to eight

(3)表示正点的用法。
十一点正at 11 o??clock sharp
at 11 o??clock on the hour
at 11 o??clock on the strike
正午12点at noon
午夜12点at midnight
（注：12点22分可读作：twelve twenty-two: twenty-two past twelve（英式说法）；twenty-two after twelve（美式说法）
1点15可读作：one fifteen; a quarter past one（英式说法）：a quarter after one（美英说法）
8点50分可读作：eight fifty; ten to nine（英式说法）；ten before nine（美式说法）
1点40分可读作：one forty; twenty to two（英式说法）；twenty before two（美式说法）
“提前半小时”可用：half an hour early; thirty minutes early; early by half an hour; half an hour ahead of time; half an hour ahead of schedule等来表示。）

比如你说的12:30可以有两种表达方式：half past twelve和twelve thirty，前者更为常用.而你这个例子比较特殊刚好到半，那么我在把其他几种也列举一下吧.比如另一个特殊的12:15 quarter past twelve和twelve fifteen那么剩下的在半之前就直接读数字如：12:20twelve twenty 12:25twelve twenty five等，那半之后也可以直接读数字如12:40twelve forty 但更常用的是twety to one（差20分1点）.如果你觉得麻烦或者不好理解，所有的时间都可以直接按顺序读数字也是可以的.。

日期方面，美英英语的表达方式是有差别的.以日为先，月份为后，此为英国式；美国式则与此相反，以月为先，日期则在后.如一九九六年三月二日的写法：2nd March,1996（英） March 2,1996（美） 在美式的写法中，1st,2nd,3rd的st,nd,rd是不使用的.由于日期书面表达不同，读法也不一样.如1987年4月20日，英式的写法是20th April,1987，读成the twentieth of April,nineteen eighty-seven；美式的表达是April 20,1987，则读成April the twentieth,nineteen eighty-seven.同样，全部用数字表达日期时，英美也有差别.1998年5月6日按照英国式应写成6/5/98，而按照美国式应写成5/6/98;01.08.1998是英国式的1998年8月1日，按照美国的表达方式却是1998年1月8日，美国的1998年8月1日应写成08,01,1998.。
