Should Smoking in Public Places be Banned? Nowadays many countries in the world have passed laws to ban smoking in public places. Some smokers claim that their rights are infringed if smoking is forbidden in public places. However, most non-smokers regard the ban as good news. As far as I'm concerned, smoking should be banned in all the public places such as restaurants, theaters and public squares. On the one hand, smoking is harmful both for smokers themselves and others. It is reported that every year smoking causes millions of death around the world. On the other hand, smoking pollutes the air. Just imagine that you sit in a restaurant full of smoke, how can you enjoy your meal there? Besides, smoking is bad for the elevation of a country's image in the world. I believe if smoking is banned in all the public places, most of us will breathe in more fresh and clean air. And the health condition of all the people will be greatly improved。

As a result, more and more countries try to forbid people to smoke in the public places. Most parents do not allow their young kids to smoke. In the advanced countries, many people do not smoke themselves and don't offer cigarettes to others.
However, it's not easy to give up smoking, because there is nicotine in cigarettes and it can make people get addicted. Therefore, many smokers can't stop smoking completely. Last but not the least, the cigarette industry makes big money from smokers. They don't really want people to keep away from cigarettes. As for me, I don't smoke and wish others can stop smoking too.

Finally, it is a good idea to ban smoking in public places and office buildings because a ban can reduce conflicts. Non-smokers tend to get annoyed and jealous because smokers have an excuse to take frequent breaks .The most significant conflict, however, is over whether smokers have a right to smoke in public . As we have already seen, non-smokers feel they are not always given a choice. If smoking in public is allowed , they will be forced to breathe harmful air. This may violate their rights, and non-smokers are angry with smokers because of it.
It seems clear that banning smoking n public places and office buildings is a good idea. It will reduce conflict and increase productivity. It will also benefit health of smokers and non-smokers alike. I believe that just about anything that improve our health is a good idea!
