The Asian elephant is one of the world's rarest animals. Unfortunately, its sad condition has not been as well publicized as that of the African elephant. This is because Asian elephant's ivory supplies only a small percentage of the world ivory trade. In fact, we know very little about the Asian elephant. They live in the remote forests of southern Asia and it is therefore very difficult to study them. Most knowledge of Asian elephants is from those that have been captured, or tamed. Asian elephants are easier to tame than African elephants. The elephants you see in the circuses and zoos are nearly always Asian.

4.亚洲象第一口吻叙述英文作文
We are Asian elephants (Elephas maximus), we are large herbivorous land mammals. We are one of two species of elephants, the other being the larger African elephant. We have small ears, a long trunk and thick, gray skin. We often wallow in mud holes and toss dirt over their body. As a result our skin is often covered with a layer of dust and dirt which acts as a sunscreen and prevents sunburn.
We have a single fingerlike outgrowth at the tip of our trunk that enables us to pick up small objects and strip leaves from trees. Male Asian elephants have tusks. Females lack tusks. We have more hair on our body than African elephants and this is especially evident in young Asian elephants which are covered in a coat of reddish brown hair.
Female Asian elephants form matriarchal groups led by the eldest female. These groups, referred to as herds, includes several related females. Mature male elephants, referred to as bulls, often roam independently but occasionally form small groups known as bachelor herds.
We have a long-standing relationship with humans. All four of the Asian elephant subspecies have been domesticated. Elephants are used to do heavy work such as harvesting and logging and are also used for ceremonial purposes.
We are classified as endangered by the IUCN. Our population has fallen significantly over the past several generations due to habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation. We are also the victims of poaching for ivory, meat and leather. Additionally, many of our friends are killed when they come into contact with local human populations.
We are herbivores. We feed on grasses, roots, leaves, bark, shrubs and stems.
